Lewisville boasts a history of growth and community development; incorporated 75 years ago with it’s first community settlement beginning 80 years before that. In the 1840’s the republic of Texas gave a grant to the Texas Emigration and Land Company to bring 600 families to what is now called Denton County. Each family was to receive 640 acres and each bachelor was to receive 320 acres. By the 1950’s population grew to about 1,500 people. In 1960 the Corps of Engineers built Lewisville Lake Damn and U.S. Hwy 77 (Now IH-35E) and by 1970 the population had grown to about 9,200 people; however the big boom was just beginning…by 1980 the population of Lewisville had grown to 25,000. Lewisville was identified as an employment center as job growth and residential development began to take off. Lewisville is now home to 90,000 residents and 3,600 businesses. Lewisville is home to many attractions like the Greater Lewisville Community Theater and Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area
