The city is named after former Texas Governor Peter Hansborough Bell who served from 1856-1857 during the Civil War era but died before taking office. The city is home to more than 100 schools including Richardson High School which serves more than 4200 students from grades 9-12 according to the Texas Education Agency website. There are also several colleges and universities in Richardson including University Of Texas Southwestern Medical School at Dallas which is located on Central Expressway near Belt Line Road according to their website where they provide information about their programs including pre-med courses as well as nursing programs.

The Church at Cross Timbers was established in 1993 by Rev. Don Gardner and his wife Cindy Gardner-Gardner. The church is located on East Belt Line Road near Plano Rd., just north of the Dallas North Tollway. 

Calvary Chapel Richardson started as an extension campus of Calvary Chapel Fort Worth in 1982 with Pastor John MacArthur as its founding pastor until 1989 when he moved to California to start Grace Community Church in Sun Valley/Santa Clarita Valley area (he's now back in the DFW area). Pastor Robert Jeffress took over for MacArthur at Calvary Chapel Richardson until 1994 when he left for Dallas Baptist University where he currently serves as senior pastor of First Baptist Church
